IELTS Test Eligibility
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an exam that is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who aspire to study or work in a country where English is the language of communication and instruction.
The IELTS exam is administered by The British Council, International Development Program (IDP) & Cambridge English for Speakers of Other languages (ESOL). As such they have not set strict eligibility criteria, thus making it a popular exam that students can opt for. About 1.3 to 1.4 million people take the IELTS test every year in India. As per IDP Education, there has been a yearly growth of 10-15% in the number of IELTS test takers as compared to the pre-pandemic levels.

About IELTS Exam 2024
The IELTS Exam covers four basic language skills – listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It is a compulsory exam for admissions into universities and training programs in the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada with a result validity period of two years from the date of the announcement of results.
The IELTS exam is an internationally accepted exam and is administered at centers throughout the world. It is not just accepted by international universities for student admissions but also by professional bodies, government agencies, and immigration authorities of countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
For taking the IELTS Exam, the preferred minimum age should be at least 16 years & you must have a valid passport. You can take the IELTS exam regardless of your cumulative percentage in 12th grade or equivalent. It is a necessary test to show that you are proficient in English in order to get admitted to a foreign university. Further, as IELTS is conducted 48 times a year (4 times a month), candidates can sit for the exam as many times as they want and can use the latest result to extend the validity period.
Now Indian students taking the IELTS exam have an option of retaking 1 section if they do not achieve their desired score on the first attempt rather than taking the entire test again.
Types of IELTS Exam
IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training Test are two formats of the IELTS Exam. Those who want to pursue higher education in a foreign country take the IELTS Academic, whereas those who want to go to major English-speaking countries for secondary education or job experience take the IELTS General Training Test.
The version of the exam you need differs based on your purpose of travel/goal:

For work/work-related training or migration to an English speaking country | IELTS General Training |
Prior to registering for the IELTS test, you must check the version required from the organization or institution you apply to and accordingly plan the test.

It's been approximate 4 years, since I am associated with Edugen Study. The best part was that even though the I have been associated for 4 years, the continued process of hand holding towards the goals was as just diligent as it was on day one. My counsellor, Ms. Pooja Sargam has been one of the most fundamental pieces to this puzzle called 'achieving your dream school'. My editor for all my application related documents - Ms. Pooja Sargam was more than just an academic figure, guiding me to visualise and pen down my dreams the best way possible. I wished to start my career from California in general and UC Berkeley in particular and all the people who contributed to this process were in sync with this dream.
